Kistunes are shapeshifting creatures that possess the ability to transform into foxes. In this way they are vaguely similar to the Loup Garou; their cousin so to speak. But unlike their stronger cousin, they are not bound by the moon. No cycle binds them or forces them to turn against their will. They are very much free to turn as they please, though some do prefer to live as foxes as they feel this was how they were meant to live. Some also prefer the 'Kit' form as this is when they are at their most powerul.
Even as foxes Kitsunes can be seen dwelling in the towns and cities of Truvestia, though that isn't to say that they are always welcomed. Some consider the Kitsune to be a parasite as they feed off a particular element to survive. These elements can range from almost anything. From the original four elements; earth, fire, wind and water and more primal forces like good and evil, or even time itself. That being said, stronger Kitsune can reek havok on the- Other lesser elements including artistic ones such as art, dance, and music are possible. But while a Kitsune thrives off of its element, they can also feed off of people and consume their sexual energy - this is energy is referred to as Chi.
Whatever is being fed on will enter a weaken state, but won't die unless the particular Kitsune is careless. That being said, Kitsunes will usually go after highly sexual races such as the Sirens as the more desire their victim has, the more Chi there is for them to consume.
Appearance
When walking on two legs, the Kitsune still have a few key features that give way to what they are. Their fox ears remain their own whether walking upright or on four legs. Tail or tail(s) remain and this is the most important attribute as it is their tail that can serve as a warning, or a sign that they are not a threat. All Kitsunes are born with one tail, but as they age and their powers grow, a new tail will appear. Aside from these two features, the rest of the Kitsune is furless. Over all, the Kitsune can best be described as a human, if you can look past the fox ears and tail and slightly pointy canine teeth.
Kitsunes as foxes are no larger than your average woodland fox, and come in a wide range of colors. From the traditional Red Fox coloring, to wildier colors like blue, purple, or green. Any color is possible, making the options almost limitless for Kitsune seeking owners. But often times their color will represent their element. For example, if a Kitsunes element was Darkness, then the Kitsune would likely be as dark as the element they consume or absorb. But it isn't always so. A white Kitsune could have Darkness as their element, and remain as white as the day they were born into this world.
Types of Kitsune
In general this race is referred to as just Kitsune, but there are in fact two different types. The word Kitsune can be translated into "Good", and "Nogitsune" meaning "Bad".
Kitsune, just as their name suggests, tend to be good at heart. They would never murder or kill an innocent without reason, unless out of self defense. The Kitsune also tend to take their word seriously, and will do almost anything to uphold it. Get a Kitsune to agree to conditions or agreement, and it is highly unlikely that the Kitsune will stray from it.
Those that consider themselves Kitsune are also devoted to their Goddess Inara, and wear a red bandanna around their necks to identify themselves as followers of Inari. But that isn't to say that the Kitsune are always on their best behavior, for they master in illusion magic and don't think it below them to play a trick or two on an unsuspecting citizen, or victim. Kitsune pranks are generally harlmess and are done for the Kitsunes own amusement.
The Nogitsune are polar opposite of the Kitsune. They do not follow Inari, and do not follow any rules but the ones that they make themselves, which are guranteed to be few and slim. Nogitsune are far more dangerous than the Kitsune. Instead of specializing in Illusion magic they tend to practice dark magic. Preying on the innocent isn't beneath them, and their idea of a prank is far more extreme than a Kitsunes. Their pranks will often lead to injury, or great misfortane.
Society
As briefly mentioned before, a Kitsunes and Nogitsunes power is determined by the number of tails they have. While both classes start with one tail, more are earned throughout their life. For Kitsune, this can happen through performing great deeds or services that which would be rewarded by Inara. Earning a tail can also happen by growing in their magical abilities, but that takes a lot of work and effort on the Kitsunes part.
The more tails a Kitsune has, the more respect they will likely be shown by other Kitsunes. This doesn't mean they will bow at the more powerful Kitsune's feet, or cower in fear, but perhaps a soft nod of respect will be shown. This doesn't keep the Kitsune from playing tricks on one another, for no one is safe from the Kitsune's mischief behavior that is again, more playful than harmful.
Nogitstune are a different matter, however. A less powerful Nogistune will see a Nogistune that has more tails as a challenge, and possibly a way to bring them a step closer to earning another tail as a test of capability, power, and even dominance.
Neither Kitsune or Nogistune form packs. Kitsune don't avoid each other but unlike the Loup Garou, they are not pack oriented creatures. They hunt on their own, and do much mischief on their own but sometimes a pair that get along will sometimes work together on some prank. But if danger comes knocking they scatter and defend their own skin.
There are always exceptions to every rule however; sometimes followers of Inari form groups at her temple in case it becomes under attack, which they tend work together to overcome the threat.
Abilities
Hearing - A Kitsune's hearing isn't as heightened as a Lycan's, or close to it, but they do have a sense of heightened hearing. They are sensitive to their surroundings and as the Kitsune are more flight than fight animals, they have keen nose for sensing when danger is approaching.
Eyesight - There is nothing superb about their eyesight. It is not keener or any sharper than a human's. It's average.
Sense of smell - The Kitsune's sense of smell is amazing. They likely rely on this sense more than any other of their senses. It's sharper than a bloodhounds, but not again does not match up to the Lycan's sense of smell, but it comes close to that.
Shifting - One advantage the Kitsune does have over their larger cousin is the ability to transform almost in an instant. The Kitsune transformation does not hurt, but it is rather quick and painless.
Magic - Kitsune's are greatly connected to magic. For fighting, they rely on their magical abilities the most, but nothing stops them from wielding a sword or bow. But as a general rule, they are purely a magical race.
Disadvantages
Elemental depravity - A Kitsune depending on the number of tails they have can go a few days without feeding off of their element or chi before they noticeably weaken. A Kitsune with one tail can go two days without feeding, while one with four tails can go five days without feeding. After a week as past, the color of their pelt will start to fade just as they do, and if they don't feed soon after, the Kitsune will wilt away and die.
